Since March 29th, the Palestinian people have been living under
siege and curfew. The Palestine Red Crescent
Society (member of the International Federation of Red Cross
and Red Crescent Societies) has consistently been denied permission by the
Israeli Occupation Forces to access towns and cities in order to provide
critical emergency medical and burial services to this civilian
population.
The chief
representative for the International Committee of the Red Cross in
Israel and the Palestinian areas has lambasted the Israeli army’s
behaviour toward medical teams in the territories. Rene Kosirnik said on
Monday he felt “betrayed” by the Israeli army’s actions, and that
the army had “wantonly and rudely trampled” all over the Fourth
Geneva Convention protocols, which expressly forbid shooting at
ambulances. He mentioned the four doctors, medics and Palestinian
ambulance drivers killed by IDF fire in recent weeks and another 12 who
have been wounded, five of them seriously. “I was shocked and deeply
hurt.” said Kosirnik. “I expected much more of the IDF. Nothing
justifies such behaviour.”

Watching from afar, many of us have been shocked by the ongoing
devastation and carnage at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces.
Donors used this opportunity to make a concrete difference and to help alleviate the suffering of those caught in the
crisis.
