Sustainability & Viability:
This activity is intended to help fulfill HUMANSERVE’s
mandate to provide basic human needs to the disadvantaged refugee
population in Lebanon. This in turn directly support’s HUMANSERVE’s
commitment to relief and development work overseas.
After
completion of well construction, the water quality will continue to be
monitored by the beneficiaries and by HUMANSERVE board members. External
support cannot be entirely phased out given the current political and social
situation of the Palestinians in Lebanon. Sustainability is linked to human
development through health ongoing unfettered access to uncontaminated
drinking water. Through this project, HUMANSERVE aims to help the community
to improve their health situation in order to maintain good health.
Poverty Reduction:
Through prevention of water-borne diseases and diarrheas,
this project will improve the health of the community, lessening the need
for costly drugs and medical interventions.
Those
women who are employed will miss less paid working days due to improvements
in health. Likewise, male income earners in the community will not be
required to miss work due to having to care for sick women and children that
they are responsible for.
Healthy
children and youth (male and female) who do not miss school due to illness
will be more likely to benefit from their education and have a better chance
of future employment.
HUMANSERVE would like to acknowledge PARD
and thank them for all their assistance in facilitating this project.
Without their help on the ground, their knowledge of the community, their
assistance in coordinating activities between Humanserve and the Popular
Committee and community leaders and their devotion to providing humanitarian
assistance, this project would not have been possible.
