On
Sunday November 18th, 2001, HUMANSERVE
hosted a screening of Live
from Palestine , a documentary film about
the Al-Aqsa Intifada (Uprising) as seen and heard through the eyes and
voices of Palestine Radio. This film is an ARTE (France)
co-production.
Our guest speaker for the evening
was the film's director & producer, Rashid
Masharawi who gave a presentation and answered questions from the audience.
After the screening, there was
a Silent Auction
of original art and Handicrafts by Palestinian artists in the theatre
lobby.
Light refreshments were served.
Rashid Masharawi - Bio
Born in 1962 in the Al-Shati
refugee camp in Gaza, Masharawi is the director of several documentaries
and fiction films. He is also the winner of many international
awards, including the UNESCO Award at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
In 1996, Masharawi founded the Cinema Production Centre in Ramallah, West
Bank, which aims to improve and develop the Palestinian movie industry by
encouraging and training young Palestinian movie-makers. An
innovative artist, Masharawi created the Mobile Cinema which has allowed
thousands of children to enjoy local and foreign films. Mashrawi's
films include:
