Week 2005: "Making Poverty History"
This year, HumanServe
participated in a panel forum on contradictions between the Security and
Development agendas of On the
one hand promoting Human Rights and Social Justice and on the other hand
implementing anti-terrorist legislation to the hilt.
Does the one hand know
what the other one is doing?
Are there
serious contradictions between the development and security agendas?
How on
earth can any nation claim to be committed to combating both poverty and
terrorism all in one “war” or by one pre-emptive strike?
Where is
the logic in these diametrically opposed agendas such as:
One of bringing peace and justice and Another one of eradicating
terrorists?

Enneke Lorberg,

This
year, International Week will look at both the causes and consequences of
conflict in a globalized and unipolar world. It will be an opportunity to
examine the roots of conflict and peace, and will address issues such as
terrorism; US hegemony; HIV/AIDS; domestic violence; refugees; the role of
the UN; Canada-US relations; peace building; race and oppression; war
affected children and regional conflicts such as in the Middle East and
Africa. International Week is your opportunity to help pick up the
'peaces'.
HUMANSERVE
International
will be participating in International Week
2004 with a presentation on
"The Wall in Palestine".
The presentation will be
a
pictorial overview and discussion of the effect of the Separation Wall on
people and communities in Palestine. This session will examine the
destruction, devastation and socio-economic impacts on the lives of the
indigenous people of Palestine who are living in the shadow of Israel’s
“security” barrier.
