An exciting opportunity is coming on May 3^rd, 2008 that will enable us to raise funds for our projects overseas.  The Great Human Race is a 5 km walk/10 km run that takes place in downtown Edmonton, beginning and ending at Churchill Square.  The walk/run is organized by the United Way and is designed to strengthen the capacity of the non-profit sector and to encourage volunteerism and citizenship.  All aspects of event planning, logistics, promotion, production, administration and receipting are provided by United Way to community agencies such as Humanserve, allowing us to focus on gathering volunteers to participate in the event and to raise pledges on the Humanserve’s behalf.  Approximately 200 community agencies and 2,500 citizens participated in the 2007 Great Human Race raising more than $250,000.

OUR GOAL:

            Humanserve International wants to ensure that we’re making the most of this fundraising opportunity.  We are hoping to raise $5,000 to help support our projects and humanitarian initiatives in Palestine and Lebanon.  Please show your support by participating in this year’s Great Human Race on our behalf and help us meet our goal.  Show your support by either:
a)  registering to be part of our team, collecting pledges on our behalf and coming out on the race day
OR
b)  by making a pledge/donation to one of our registered team members.

REGISTER:

You can participate on the day of the run/walk by registering using one of the following options:

There is a registration fee for all walkers/runners over 13 years of age – children/youth under 13 can register for free.

COLLECT PLEDGES:

Once you are registered as a Humanserve team member, you can collect pledges from your friends, family and co-workers.  Pledge forms are available for downloading and printing (PDF).  All completed pledge forms and pledge dollars must be submitted on or before May 3^rd 2008.  (NOTE:  write "Humanserve International" on the form as the organization you are supporting.  If you do not indicate Humanserve, ALL YOUR PLEDGE MONEY WILL GO TO THE GENERAL UNITED WAY FUND!) 

SUPPORT THE HUMANSERVE TEAM:  

If you are unable to join us on by walking or running on May 3^rd , you can make a pledge of support for the Humanserve Team or for individual runners on the Humanserve Team.  Make your pledge on-line at www.greathumanrace.com or by contacting Humanserve at (780) 487-9373.  All on-line pledges must be made on or before May 3^rd, 2008.

(NOTE:  when making a pledge on-line, search for "Humanserve International" under "Find a team or runner". or  from the drop-down list of organizations so that you can support us.  If you do not select Humanserve, ALL YOUR PLEDGE MONEY WILL GO TO THE GENERAL UNITED WAY FUND and not to Humanserve.)
